There are a ton of national stories out there dealing with the issue of confidence.  It is something that trial lawyers have to have almost all of the time.   The clients hire us to go into court and fight for them.   They are people who in many cases aren’t used to having someone who represents them.  They don’t have people saying nice things and arguing for reasons why they deserve something.  So I always am thinking about better ways to do that.

Bluster: Cleveland quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains said a text he received from Johnny Manziel on the opening night of the NFL draft last Thursday helped get the ball rolling toward the Browns picking the former Texas A&M star quarterback.

During a radio interview on “SportsTalk with Bo Mattingly” on ESPN Arkansas 96.3, Loggains said that as Manziel slid down the draft board, he sent him a text that read: “I wish you guys would come get me. Hurry up and draft me because I want to wreck this league together.”

Johnny definitely  is filled with confidence.  I wonder if playing for a team like the Browns if we will ever find out if he is really that good.   He is trumpeting to the team and now to the whole world that he plans to be big.

Premature:  Spanish cyclist Eloy Teruel began to celebrate upon thinking he won the stage. Unfortunately, there was still a lap to go.

Here the guy had done well but he wasn’t done yet.  He lost sight of where he was and what he was doing.

Not worrying about end: The screenwriter and director of the Disney film “Frozen” has encouraged University of New Hampshire graduates to do away with self-doubt.

Jennifer Lee graduated from UNH in 1992. On Saturday, she told the graduates: “When you are free from self-doubt, you fail better. You accept criticism and listen.”

This one is different in that she accepts that there will be failures, but still  goes in doing her best.  She promotes the endgame by not worrying about the little battles.

Finally,  Seth Godin gives us : The benefit of the doubt

Seth gets to the key.  That is how we deal with doubt and  how we learn from it that we truly advance.  We are dealing with clients who have had bad things happen.   They have loses they never wanted or expected to suffer.   It is how we present that case and deal with both the good and bad that gives us the best result.
