Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis Survivors Have less Time Than Rest of the State for Justice

Comments Off

With the passage of the Child Victims Act,  the Minnesota Legislature opened a three year window for all survivors of sexual abuse as minors to bring claims.   The each had until May of 2016 to come forward and find justice.   Unfortunately, the timing has changed for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis Survivors.  As of last week, the U S Bankruptcy court has set the date for those survivors as August of 2015.  Therefore, they have lost nine months of protection.

The time lost,  is another example of advantages that the bankrupt Archdiocese gain by taking this legal out.  The court has ordered the archdiocese to publish deadline notices in 23 newspapers, and make announcements on four TV stations, two radio stations and throughout each diocese in Minnesota.  It will be interesting to see how diligent they are in making sure the message gets out.

Abuse of children and the continued silence by the offenders needs to be prevented. If you suffered, saw, or suspected such events, it is important to know that there is help out there.
