There is a very easy way. By keeping children safe. The focus needs to be on why organizations get sued and stop hiding when there is a problem. It is so disheartening, to see a organization that claims to be there for children, hide like common criminals when a innocent child is left unprotected.
The Center for Disease Prevention and Control has some great help:
Preventing Child Sexual Abuse Within Youth-serving Organizations: Getting Started on Policies and Procedures [PDF 4.5MB] The guide identifies six key components of child sexual abuse prevention for organizations:
- Screening and selecting employees and volunteers [PDF 4.5MB]
- Guidelines on interactions between individuals [PDF 4.5MB]
- Monitoring behavior [PDF 4.5MB]
- Ensuring safe environments [PDF 4.5MB]
- Responding to inappropriate behavior, breaches in policy, and allegations and suspicions of child sexual abuse [PDF 4.5MB]
- Training in child sexual abuse prevention [PDF 4.5MB]
Taking action and protecting children is the best way to stop lawsuits.
Abuse of children and the continued silence by the offenders needs to be prevented. If you suffered, saw, or suspected such events, it is important to know that there is help out there.
