In early 2020, the Minnesota Legislature came together and passed a common-sense law to get cell phones out of the hands of drivers. Studies show that taking your eyes off the road for five seconds at 55 mph is like driving the length of a football field, blindfolded.
Much has happened since the hands-free law has gone into effect. For a time period during the COVID pandemic, there was a significant reduction in traffic. Unfortunately, this also led to people driving faster speeds and driving distracted.
It is imperative that drivers not fall back into bad habits and obey the hands-free law. If you do not have a hands free option in your vehicle, consider purchasing a blue tooth, or just put the phone away. Hands-free driving saves lives and makes every one of us safer on the road.
