Last Saturday afternoon, it was snowing here in Minnesota. Going through Minneapolis is the Lowery Tunnel. Because of its almost 45 degree turn off to the east side veteran cities drivers generally slow down.
The past Saturday because of collisions in the tunnel it seems there were to many newbies or notpayingattentionbies driving. Take a couple minutes and watch the video. s
What can be learned here ?
1 The need to defensively drive in the winter. That especially under changing road conditions mixed with tricky turns you need to be on high alert.
2 Under winter conditions you have got to slow down. To many of those cars seem to be flying into the tunnel.
3 You can not be distracted. Weather its texting , music, or substances you can not be looking away or drifting off. Things happen to fast and you need to be able to react.
4 Make sure your car and especially your tires are in winter ready shape. While quick and early inspection would be needed to confirm the facts , it is very clear at least some of the older looking cars might not have been ready. Especially , under winter conditions, with each 10°F drop in temperature a tire looses 1–2 pounds per square inch (PSI).
While at times a sudden emergency can create a problem , it is clear here that the working on the four rules ahead was the difference for many of the vehicles that made it through.
