All models made under the Simplicity brand with fixed or drop-side cribs, made with tubular metal mattress support, are involved in the latest crib recall. Models named under the Aspen, Chelsea Deluxe and Graco brands are also affected.

The cribs’ tubular metal mattress frame can bend or detach, causing part of the mattress to collapse which creates a space in which an infant or toddler can become entrapped or fall out of the crib.

To date, the CPSC has received one report of child suffocating after becoming entrapped between the crib mattress and frame in April 2008. In total, the agency is aware of 13 other incidents.

Graco brand drop-side cribs made by LaJobi Inc. are also being recalled. The hardware on the drop-side can break or fail, allowing the side to detach which creates a gap between the drop-side and mattress where children can become entrapped.

To date, 99 incidents have been reported to the agency.
