Yesterday, the  Diocese of Winona released a new  list of 2 more priests accused of sexually abusing minors.  These names add to the 14 previous names that were disclosed in December of 2013.  This disclosure is a result of the October 2014 settlement agreement in the civil lawsuit Doe 1 v. Archdiocese of Saint Paul & Minneapolis and Diocese of Winona. The settlement agreement contained a multi-step child protection plan which included the ongoing, public release of individual names of clerics with substantiated claims of the sexual abuse of minors. Until now  these names have been hidden.    The Rev. John M. Quinn, Bishop of Winona,  did release a statement with the list.

The Diocese did also add to each ” Because (they)  died prior to the accusation of abuse was made to the Diocese of Winona, (they) was never able to confirm or deny the allegation.”  But the linked files and the naming by the Church seems to  weight against there being a problem with any disclosure. In response  SNAP challenge every priest in the Winona diocese to mention the names at masses this weekend and beg anyone who has been hurt by the clerics to come forward and get help.

More names are now disclosed,  there are more lists that exist in Minnesota,  and there are many more names to find.Abuse of children and the continued silence by the offenders needs to be prevented. If you suffered, saw, or suspected such events, it is important to know that there is help out there.
