Two people were injured in a late night car accident in Minneapolis on Wednesday evening. Two cars were traveling on Interstate 394, with one driver going the wrong way in the eastbound lanes. They collided head-on and both drivers were injured.

Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Mark Peterson said investigators smelled alcohol on the breath of the wrong way driver.

“Troopers when they were investigating detected alcohol on the breath of the driver traveling the wrong way and that’s about as much as we can go at this point in time,” he said. Toxicology tests are being conducted.

Both drivers were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The wrong way driver was listed in critical condition. The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the accident and no charges have been filed. The accident shut down the interstate for a few hours.
