Yesterday, Pope Francis named 21 new Cardinals. The vision is that they will sweep in a view towards reform in the Church. This will be watched with interest and some doubt. While the Church has always talked about wanting to deal with past abuse the actions they take in the courtroom suggest that they will fight truly drawing the curtain back.
I have watched the number of times attempts have been made to include the Vatican City in as a party. Each time every legal maneuver has been used to cut claims off. The truth is that open windows on statututes of limitations, all parties being responsible, and facing juries have been what has made the Church reform.
