The first week of April, the United States Food and Drug Administration and Jennie-O Turkey Store of Willmar, Mn., announced the recall  of 55,000 pounds of frozen, raw turkey burgers because the meat may have been contaminated with Salmonella.  12 people in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Washington and Wisconsin have become ill over the last four months.

Most people infected with Salmonella develop the symptoms 12 to 72 hours after infection. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days, and most people recover with treatment. However, in some persons, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. It can be deadly to infants, the elderly and those that are sick all ready. For more information on Salmonella bacteria, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Website at http://www.cdc.gov.

The recall includes 4-pound boxes of Jennie-O’s "All Natural Turkey Burgers with seasonings Lean White Meat." Each box contains 12 individually wrapped burgers. The packages have a use-by date of Dec. 23, 2011, and identifying lot codes of "32710" through "32780." The products were packaged on Nov. 23.

Jennie-O said the products were sold only at Sam’s Club. Consumers can return the product to their place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions can also contact the company .

If you suffer from food poisoning, you need to get immediate medical care. If it continues or there are long term affects, you should contact an attorney concerning the problem. Early investigation can include the collection of samples, checking for health alerts, and the proper notifying of those who caused the problem.
